Campaign Droppings -- V.v

An addendum to the first long item in the previous posting (below) about Bush's terminological inexactitudes.

Even more sympathetic than the Conservative Political Action Committee, which lapped up his raw meat on Friday, was Chris Wallace of Faux News Channel who in a puff interview of the president on Sunday elicited one unfollowed-up misstatement of Barack Obama’s foreign policy position and these two whoppers:

"I frankly don't give a damn about the polls. And I darn sure don't, you know, call a group of people together in a focus group and say, well, tell me what to think."

Here is how I would have followed up:

“Mr. President if you don’t give a damn (and on Sunday!) about the polls, why did your re-election campaign spend $794.000 on them?”

"We have inherited a recession and had 52 months of uninterrupted job growth which is a record."

“Mr. President, the recession you inherited followed 10 years of uninterrupted economic expansion, the longest in history. Who was president during eight of those 10 years? And how much of that job growth was due to more people entering the work force? What was the actual rate of job growth? And, if I may, how did we get into this recession?”
