I have come to detest feature films from Hollywood -- even many of the indies like Little Miss Sunshine -- for going on 5 or 10 minutes too long in order to tack on a focus-grouped ending that artistically destroys what went before.
The other day I saw a reasonably good movie, The Departed," spoiled by lasting about two and a half hours, which had me pondering why Diet Coke is being manufactured with more diuretics the older I get.
Until I get it together to list my all-time favorite flicks, here is one that meets many of my cinematic standards: Simple plot, realistic acting, good music, minimalist cinema verite direction but not European, and short!
